Summer Sailed into Spring

summer sailed in with the flowers

as spring lashed out with a flurry

pounding each until they fell

tiny drums offbeat to shadows

the rhythm of death drowning

each bloom back to its beginning

becoming soils of missed beauty

stems now standing alone weeping

tiny soldiers shivering in the chill

the warmth hiding in the trees

with the birds and baby squirrels

snuggling until summer returns
